There is an ever increasing amount of people choosing to use road bikes as their primary mode of transport to and from the work place – and what better way to do it than on the Giordano Libero 1.6 road bike? One thing that I always like to do at the start of any of my road bike reviews is to try and match the particular model that I am reviewing to a type of person. The only issue here is that the Giordano Libero 1.6, as with many of Giordano’s road bikes, is very applicable to a wide range of people and purposes. It is brilliantly suited to people looking for a road bike to get to work, to keep themselves fit, for competitions or just for getting themselves fit too. Ultimately it is evident that this road bike has been designed for the masses, it is widely used across the world and for good reason too – it performs very well and is available for a good entry level price too.
The most striking feature of the Giordano Libero 1.6 is the beautiful 6061 aluminum frame, this particular frame has been hand crafted by the experts over at Giordano and it is very lightweight too. As with all aluminum frames, you are always able to get them to high speeds fairly quickly due to how light they are. This is one of the chief reasons for why this bike is so well suited to a wide range of people, no matter how big or small you are, it is possible to get shifting very rapidly with very minimal effort. Another key thing to note is that the Giordano Libero has a number of other components that are also crafted using quality materials too. The majority of which being aluminum based alloys, most of which are produced by the talented bicycle artisans over at Shimano – much alike most other budget or entry level road bikes.
Of these components there are quality derailleurs for the front and rear cranks, these work exceptionally well, exactly as you would expect from Shimano. Additionally features include the 16 gear speed drive train which is again made by Shimano, yes – the bike does only have 16 gears but this is more than enough to get yourself about wherever you may find yourself. I think that this is a common misconception when it comes to purchasing a road bike, many people think that you need 20, 30 or 40 gears, but this is simply not the case and it adds on supplementary weight that is not required at all. The 16 gears that the Giordano Libero 1.6 has are enough to propel absolutely anyone to high speeds, in actual fact there is enough for racing too.
The wheel-sets are also exceptionally light too, they are designed by Vitesse and are 700c in diameter and 25c in width. The wheels are a fairly standard size and are designed to be both stable on the road but also have minimal resistance too to facilitate rapid movement. The wheels have an awful lot of grip and can easily handle a wide range of different types of terrain and the sturdy aluminum frame is brilliant at reducing the amount of shock felt by the rider whilst on more challenging terrain or going over pot holes on the roads at high speed.
