Very few brands can claim to be as prolific at producing exceptional road bikes at truly affordable prices as Vilano. The Vilano Aluminum road bike is one of the finest examples of this statement. Many people are of the belief that if you are not spending thousands of dollars on your road bike then it must be completely useless, but this is simply not the case and ultimately it could not be further from the truth. I noticed this common misconception early on in my road biking days but it seems people are still extremely deluded when it comes to this point. Vilano have agonizingly been acting the go against the grain and produce outstanding road bikes for cheap prices for many years now and every year they seem to get closer to cracking it. The Vilano Aluminum road bike a truly extraordinary bike that really does outperform bikes that are many multiple times more expensive than it.
Vilano describe this model as an entry level bike, but when you look at the specification and more so when you try it out on the road, you can’t really see where they are coming from. It has almost everything that a bike costing $1000 would have – and more. The bike has been designed for the beginner in mind but it is perfectly capable of keeping someone who has been riding road bikes for years perfectly happy too. It is a brilliant bike for you to use on your commute to work, perfect for people looking to keep themselves fit and healthy and of course it is also ideal for people looking for a bit of fun too. It is somewhat of a ‘basic’ bike in terms of how it is designed, but over the years I have grown to the opinion that simplicity is best when it comes to road bikes. The simplest models are the most reliable and usually are the most lightweight too.
The Vilano Aluminum road bike has a total of 21 gear speeds, the shifter itself is designed by Shimano, as are the remainder of the components on this bike. Its 6061 aluminum frame is sturdy and lightweight, as a result of this it is possible to achieve a high top speed on a slope, but the bike also flies up a steep gradient hill too. Aluminum is, in general, a very sturdy and shock resistant material that is perfect for road bikes. When you are on this bike you will feel very few vibrations from the road and will be pleasantly surprised with how well it handles too. In actual fact the Vilano Aluminum road bike is one of the lightest aluminum based road bikes that we have ever reviewed.
Another thing that we were pleasantly surprised about with this bike is how it looks on the road. Vilano always do a great job at finishing the aesthetics of their road bikes, but there is something about this one that really does tick all of the boxes. You wouldn’t be able to pick between a premium road bike and this one and I think that is what does it for me. Similarly, the fact that it boasts 21 gears is another massive plus – this enables you to really go fast on a steep decline, but also tackle the steepest of hills with consummate ease.

The remainder of the components are all made to high standards. The 700c x 25c wheels are not the best, but for the price they will be hard to beat. They manage to grip the road quite well and are fairly stable for a 25c width too. The saddle is quite stiff but can easily be replaced by a more premium version if it proves to be an issue – for very little extra cost. The forks on the Vilano Aluminum road bike are of a sturdy design and ensure that the bike doesn’t sway too much on uneven terrain. I had no issue with the pedals either, they were very comfortable to use over an hour long cycle route I took the bike on. To add to this, the wheels themselves are crafted using double walled CNC alloy and so they are likely to last quite a while, replacing them is very cheap too.
Best Available Price: $259
As you can tell, I am a massive fan of this budget level bike and would highly recommend it to friends and family that couldn’t afford to pay any more. Vilano are a brilliant brand that always puts the rider first and doesn’t put cheap or dubiously designed components into their bikes – fantastic.
